Reading Time: 3 minutesWelcome to Rookies Learn to Crochet!
Today’s lesson is all about the Triple Crochet Stitch.
Each week I will present a new lesson, which will build on the skills and techniques we’ve learned from the previous lesson. By the end of this series you will have learned and (hopefully) mastered the following basic skills:
- Chaining,
- Single Crochet,
- Half Double Crochet
- Double Crochet,
- Triple Crochet,
- Changing Color,
- Adding a Border,
- Finishing off and Weaving in Ends.
Learning these basic stitches and techniques are essential in most crochet patterns. Once you have learned these, the sky is the limit as far as what you can create! If you are a watch, pause, and rewind the kind of learner, please check out the video tutorial that goes along with this blog post by clicking here. There you can watch, pause, rewind and fast forward till your heart’s content. We all learn differently, and I’m here to try and help in as many different formats as possible. You can also catch all the lessons (including videos) in the Rookies Learn to Crochet series right here on the blog by

So let’s get started!
Rookies learn to Crochet Episode 8 (The Triple Crochet Stitch)
This week’s lesson is all about learning the triple crochet stitch. In this lesson we will learn to:
This stitch is very similar to the Double Crochet stitch from a previous lesson, The only difference is instead of yarning over and pulling through two loops twice, you’ll do it three times. The pictures below are showcasing the stitch working into the foundation chain. Adapt this to your pattern and just use the indicated stitches there.
To get started, yarn over twice And then go into the specified stitch.
Yarn over
And pull up a loop. You’ll now have four loops on your hook.
Yarn over again
And pull through two loops on your hook. You’ll now have three on your hook
Yarn over again, and pull through two loops.
You’ll now have two loops left on your hook
Yarn over one more time
And pull through the last two loops on your hook to complete the stitch.
And that’s all there is to it really! Your first triple crochet stitch is now complete. Continue doing this until you reached the specified number of stitches or until you reach the end of your row.
Thanks for coming along with me on this teaching journey! I absolutely love crochet, and I am so happy to be teaching it to you! Come back next week when I post a new free crochet pattern that will put this stitch to the test!
Happy Crocheting!
