A Sweeping Mop Cover Pattern
This reusable mop cover is so quick and easy to put together. Using only one crochet stitch, and minimal sewing, it is the beginner crocheter’s dream! Use these covers instead of the costly replacements, and just toss them in the washer after each use. Made from 100% cotton, they are super absorbent and eco friendly.
Materials Needed
Yarn: 100% Cotton – Lily Sugar’N Cream (Or any other 100% cotton yarn you like)
Hook: Size: I/9 – 5.50mm

There are no abbreviations in this pattern. I have written this pattern for the beginner crocheter, and I want this process to be as stress-free and fun as possible! Let’s get started making our mop cover!
To Begin:
Chain 16
Row 1: Make 1 Half Double Crochet in 2nd chain from your hook, and in every stitch across.
Chain 1 and turn your work. .(15 Stitches)
Row 2: Half Double Crochet in each stitch across. (15 Stitches)
Note: Make sure that you’re always starting your first stitch of the next row in the top of the last stitch from the previous row. This will ensure that you have the correct number of stitches at the end of each row, and they are straight and even. (See below for picture example)
Row 3-35: Repeat Row 2. When you get to the end, Do NOT fasten off or cut yarn!
At this point, you have a long narrow rectangle. How do we make a mop cover out of this?

Fold each short end up and over, counting over 14 rows, attach each end with a pin, or scrap piece of yarn. (This helps keep them secure so you can stitch them down). When you get the markers in place, you’ll start working on closing up your mop cover.
Starting in the corner where your working yarn is, half double crochet through both layers, putting a stitch in each stitch all the way around.
When you get to the corner, put three half double crochet stitches in one stitch at the corner.

Keep doing this all the way around, making three half double crochets in each corner you come to. Remove your pins or scrap yarn as you come to those stitches, and discard. When you get back to where you started, finish off your work by pulling up a loop and cutting your yarn.’

When you get done, thread your yarn through a yarn needle, and secure the end in your work by running it into the threads of the stitches. This hides the end and makes it more secure.
And that’s it! You’re done! Slip your mop cover over your mop bottom, and go clean your floor!
